Footprint

Accessing your footprint overview

To view your organisation's footprint, navigate to Measure and then select Footprint. This section provides a detailed breakdown of your annual emissions, allowing you to assess your carbon impact over time.

Use the Year and Site filters to change what you're viewing, and switch between Market Based and Location Based for how Scope 2 is calculated. Select All for Year to see emissions trends over time, or a specific year for a detailed breakdown of that year.

With Year set to All, you'll see:

  • Annual Emissions: A chart showing your total emissions for each year, segmented by Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3.
  • Employee Intensity Ratio, Revenue Intensity Ratio, and Floor Space Intensity Ratio: Charts showing each intensity ratio's trend across years.

Viewing a single year

Selecting a specific Year (and, optionally, a Site) switches to a detailed breakdown for that period:

  • Estimated Total Emissions: Your total emissions for the selected year, in tCO₂e.
  • Intensity Ratios: A table showing your Employee, Revenue, and Floor space intensity ratios for the year — see What are organisational metrics and how do I add custom metrics? for how these are calculated.
  • Scopes Summary: A donut chart showing the split between Scope 1 (Direct), Scope 2 (Indirect), and Scope 3 (Supply Chain) emissions.
  • Emission Category Summary: A donut chart grouping your emissions into broad categories (e.g., Fuels, Materials & Goods, Vehicles, Employees, Leased Assets, Transportation & Distribution) — the exact categories shown depend on where your emissions actually come from.
  • Emission Breakdown: A list of every scope category with recorded emissions, each with its tCO₂e total and share of your overall footprint. Select a category to explore its emissions in more detail.

The category names used throughout match the standard GHG Protocol scope categories — see What are Scope 1, 2 and 3 Emissions? and Deeper insights into the Scope 3 categories for the full list.

Interpreting your footprint

  • Comparing Years: The ability to compare emissions over multiple years helps track progress in reducing carbon impact.
  • Using Intensity Ratios: Organisations experiencing business growth can still monitor efficiency improvements by using intensity ratios.
  • Identifying Reduction Opportunities: By breaking down emissions into scopes and categories, organisations can pinpoint high-impact areas where reduction strategies will be most effective.
