Measure
What are organisational metrics and how do I add custom metrics?
Organisation's Annual Metrics, also known as Intensity Ratios, are essential metrics that allow you to evaluate your organisation's carbon footprint relative to key factors such as revenue or staff numbers. These metrics are useful for regulatory compliance and provide insight into how your carbon emissions evolve as your business grows.
Note: metric values, such as Revenue or FTE, are entered per site rather than as a single organisation-wide figure. The Organisation's Annual Metrics card on the Measure page totals the values entered across all your sites for the selected reporting year.
What are intensity ratios?
Intensity Ratios help measure emissions in relation to other variables, for example:
- Tonnes of CO₂e per FTE Employees
- Tonnes of CO₂e per £100,000 Revenue
These ratios provide valuable benchmarks for performance evaluation and reporting, particularly as your organisation scales.
TrackZero includes three default intensity ratios out of the box: Revenue, FTE (full-time equivalent staff), and Floor Area. You can also add your own custom ratios, as described below.
Entering your site's annual metrics
To enter or update a site's figures for the reporting year:
- From the Measure page, find the site's row in the Emissions Assessments table.
- Select the Metrics icon next to that row to open the Site Annual Metrics pop-up.
- Enter the site's Total Revenue (£), Total Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Staff (people), and Site Floor Space (converted automatically to your organisation's floor area unit).
- Click Save.
These totals are used to calculate site-level intensity ratios, and roll up into the Organisation's Annual Metrics card for the reporting year.
Adding a custom intensity ratio
To add a new type of intensity ratio for your organisation:
- Click the 'Manage' Button
On the Organisation's Annual Metrics card, click the Manage button. This will take you to the Settings page.
- Navigate to Metrics Settings
In the Settings menu, select Metrics to access the Intensity Ratios section.
- Add an Intensity Ratio
Click the Add Intensity Ratio button. Enter the following details:
- Name: Define the metric (e.g., Students for a school, Revenue for a business).
- Unit: Specify the unit of measurement (e.g., people, £).
- Save the Intensity Ratio
After entering the details, click Add to save the new intensity ratio.
Example use cases
- Schools: Calculate emissions per student.
- Corporations: Track carbon emissions per revenue unit or per full-time equivalent (FTE) staff.
By consistently tracking these metrics, you can better understand and manage your organisation's carbon footprint as it grows.
